Istiklal Street: The most stylish buildings of the street

Back on istiklal, walking toward Tünel is Asmali Mescit Sokak on the right, which attracts a crowd daily. The traditional Turkish restaurants found on and around this street offer an authentic experience and extensive menus. Some of the noteworthy buildings on istiklal before reaching Tünel Square are:

Hidival Palas:
Built as one of the oldest hotels in the region, today the building is used as a business center.

Narmanli Han:
Approximately 170 years old, it had great importance for the Russians who
came to Istanbul. The building served as the Russian consulate, court and prison. The inn, which retains its original form with a large courtyard, was later rented to artists and writers as studios and residences. Famous writers and artists in Turkish history have lived here, including Bedri Rahmi Eyuboglu and Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar.

Şark Aynalı Çarşı:
This is one of the oldest passages in Beyoğlu. Just near the entrance Is Markiz Patisserie, known as a meeting place for Intellectuals for several years. It offers delicious cakes and china panels in the art nouveau style, designed by I. A. Arnoux. Also, there are art galleries and restaurants within the bazaar.
