Sultan Ahmet III Fountain - Topkapi Palace

The Ottomans enlarged the water system left from the Byzantine period. Fountains were constructed ther by the state or by benefactors and enabled people to meet their water needs.
Wall fountains and corner fountains located at street corners, were commonly built.
Monumental fountains in city squares began to be constructed in the baroque style after the influence of western architectural aesthetics in the 18th century.
The fountain in front of the main gate of Topkapi Palace was built by Sultan Ahmet III in 1728 and is an example of a monumental square fountains.
